  • Alto Tenor Horn Eb, no maker’s mark other than the engraving 20th CENTURY.  Each valve stem is marked, the first is 15, then 14 over 9, and the last is 13.  The valve buttons are mother of pearl, one of the three is missing.  None of the valves are stuck, all are free and operate smoothly, as well as the release valve.  The mouthpiece appears to be original to the horn and is very tarnished.  AS you can tell from the photographs there are numerous dents and scratches, but no breaks or penetrations.   This horn was displayed in the post bellum section of the South Carolina Civil War Museum.   The bell measures 9″ in diameter, the overall length of the instrument is 24″.
Another friend just emailed and stated “
I think this is a baritone, most tenor horns have a smaller bell around 8” and the second slide is shorter and points out, not down… “
